Indian Rummy is a popular card game played in India among 2 to 5 players using a deck of 13 cards. The objective is to form sequences and sets to meet the requirements of the game. Jokers can be used to complete sequences or sets, provided that at least one pure sequence is formed.

Variations of Rummy

Rummy is also known as Rammy in some regions and is pronounced as /ˈrəmē/. There are several variations of the game, with the 13-card variant being the most popular among Indian players.

The main goal of Indian Rummy is to create a pure sequence (e.g., JQK) of cards of the same suit, or a set (e.g., AAA) of cards with the same value. Once a player has formed the required runs and sets using the cards in hand, they can declare a game.

In Indian Rummy, the game is typically played with four players, each receiving 13 cards from two decks. To declare a game, a player must have a pure sequence (First Life) and either a pure or impure sequence (Second Life), along with a set of four cards. If a player is unable to create a pure sequence, they receive a penalty of 80 points.
